Affordable Health Insurance :: Affordable Individual & Family Health Insurance

First of all consider what consider what you need your  affordable health insurance to cover. Do you have a pre-existing condition? Are you likely to become pregnant? Once you’ve done this you can begin to compare plans to see which is the most applicable for you. There is no point in paying for something that you do not need.

Second, once you have reduced the field like this consider whether you could get a better deal by taking out a more barebones policy and combining it with supplementary health insurance to get you the perfect  affordable health insurance. This can be perfect for those who can get adequate care via medicare and supplementary insurance.

Third, consider how much you can afford to pay in deductibles as you can often get a great deal if you are prepared to gamble on being able to pay a deductible of perhaps five hundred to a thousand bucks. This is the basis of catastrophic insurance where the deductible is sky high but premiums are really low as a result. Certainly catastrophic insurance is  affordable health insurance but be careful before going for such a cheap alternative.

Fourth, make sure you research state and federal resources and programs that can help you achieve  affordable health insurance. Often there are special programs for the unemployed, old or self-employed. These can really reduce your bills.

Fourth, if you are employed ask your employer if they have a deal with an insurance company or if they offer contributions to employees health care. These two options are often taken by companies who cannot afford to offer full health care but want to help out all of their employees so that all can enjoy  affordable health insurance. In fact you could even look to move to a job where you get health insurance as part of your benefits.

It is fine for politicians and activists to talk of the need for affordable health insurance but how do we get from this dark point in health care to the green fields of  affordable health insurance?

Well it must begin on an individual basis. The rich must accept their responsibility to society and begin to contribute more to the welfare of the poor. And when I talk of the rich I’m not talking just about the directors of big business I’m talking about big business itself contributing to making the dream affordable health insurance a reality. Too long have these corporations only cared about their profits and not about people, it is the time right now to force change upon them.  Those less fortunate must also be prepared in this time of international financial uncertainty to shoulder some of the burden and continue to contribute to their schemes. But they cannot do it alone, it requires Washington to make a commitment bigger than any it has made before to help its citizens to get affordable health insurance. How? Not through money alone, although investment must be massive, but through creating an army of doctors and nurses to rival that of our great armed forces to work for the government to provide healthcare at a bargain rate. By engaging in such a vast national scheme, perhaps involving the building of more health insurance centres this country can raise itself out of depression, as it did eighty years ago with the inter-state program and create a new American Dream – one that includes affordable health insurance for all.

Affordable health insurance is not something that should seem out of our reach, something that is too difficult to achieve; a mountain we cannot climb. This nation has fought battles of segregation and won. It has destroyed tyranny around the globe yet at home the simple dream of affordable health insurance remains unobtainable.

In a country of wealth and power, there remain over 40 million people without healthcare. A larger number are paying huge prices just to keep the possibility of a hospital bed alive. This is not the American Dream we have lived and fought for for these long hard years. When we led the world out of the despair of imperialism and fascism we did so to create something better, something that is worthy of us and of our children. There is no doubt that health is one of those irremovable rights of all men and it is the responsibility of the state of every person to help create a nation where every person has the right to maintain their health without undue cost.

This has never been more important than now when we must once again be a light in a world plagued by darkness. There are threats facing us from all over the world, in the middle east we are fighting two wars, Russia is increasingly resurgent and America must be the nation that every other nation strives to be like. That means offering  affordable health insurance to replace hap-hazard schemes such as catastrophic health insurance. If we allow our poorest to be left without any healthcare what kind of a nation are we?
